Summary
Colley Cibber's comedy The Double Gallant was first brought to the Haymarket Theatre in 1707. The review indicates that the play is a compilation of three others. Detailing the scenes copied and their provenance, the author mentions a scene taken from Burnaby's The Lady's Visitig Day where ". . . Clerimont fights with Clarinda in man's clothes, and finds a feather instead of a sword-blade." "Clarinda, a mere conventional lady of the old comedy, is not worthy of Miss Fortescue, who is so charming a delineator of the really truthful and feminine."
