Summary

The author of this editorial satirizes the many recent cases of escapes in disguise by Irish leaders, often in using racialized vocabulary and comparisons.  One of the cases he refers to is the escape, previously reported in the Times for November 7th, of Mr. Stephens from Waterford to Paris and from Mr. Doheney from Cork to Paris. The editorial however shifts the use of female garb from Stephens to Doheney: "Mr. STEPHENS . . .  habited as a 'poor scholar,' wandered for weeks about the Commeragh mountains. . . ."  "The redoutable Mr. DOHENEY disguised himself, first as a schoolmaster, and then as a woman, and in the second costume reached Dover, whence he crossed over to France."
