Summary

Review of Terence's comedy Phormio, performed in Latin by the students at St. Peter's College.  "Messrs. Somerville and Ingram, who play the two female parts of Nausistrata and Sophrona, make them very effective. However, it may be remarked that the ladies are always successful, the appearance of the young gentlemen in feminine attire being a good received joke to start with."  As is common with these school productions, a prologue and epilogue, in Latin, addressing current events, are appended to Terence's text; in the epilogue, which is a sort of mini-play satirizing the Chartists, a stage direction, in English, reads "enter Nausistrata as a female Chartist."  The performance under review was attended by Prince Metternich.
