WXDA Record #1106
Drury-Lane.
29 December 1848
Summary
Review of a performance from the French equestrian company, including the Cirque National de Paris. "The first part of the evening's entertainments was concluded by a cavalry manoeuvre called the 'English Lancers,' in which several of the ladies of the company assume the attire of the several Lancer regiments, armed with lances and clothed in the full panoply of war. It will be readily supposed that these graceful Amazons are very light troops; but yet the illusion is astonishingly perfect, and every spectator seemed last night willing to applaud them without stint or measure, they imitated soldiership so admirably."
