THE THEATRES IN PARIS.

Summary
An overview of the theatres in Paris which, after a period of political turmoil and cholera, have been gradually improving. In his account of the Academie de Musique he details a production of a ballet called La Revolte du Serail during which, although "The plot is a very silly affair," nevertheless included a "most remarkable scene" after the "regular catastrophe": "It consists in the performance of military exercise and evolutions by 69 fair warriors of the other sex, who, with gilt helmet and cuirass, short white tunics, and silk tight "inexpressibles," commanded by "Marshal Tagliool," and several female Generals, go through their task with an activity and precision which may well deserve the envy of every spurred and mustachioed linendraper's and grocer's apprentice, who does his best to assume a martial appearance, because he belongs to or intends to be a member of the National Guard."
