"It is a query among the critics, if Mrs. Abington, like many others of her sex, may not let down her consequence and her reputation, when she lets down her pettycoats to put on the breeches in Scrub." "There is every reason to suppose, that the above lady will perform Scrub with that simplicity which is the characteristic of the part--that simplicity which Weston so naturally assumed that it put Garrick out of countenance." "It has been said in the Box Lobby, that Mrs. Abington's appearance in breeches is intended by that lady as argument a posteriori, to prove her super-excellence in the comic line."
