Summary
"The critics say Mrs. Abington was let down by playing Scrub--but how few ladies on the stage would not be let down for their own benefit." "If the above lady had not other merit in her breeches--character, she certainly possessed the philosopher's stone, as was evinced by the quanity of gold produced." It is estimated that the overall receipts for the performance benefit were "one thousand pounds; owing to the number of gold tickets."
