Summary
"We hear that an adventurer of the most curious kind was arrested . . . for the detestable crime of repeated marriages, with persons of both sexes, which this wretch, who is of the masculine gender, effected, by changing his dress and apparatus, suitable to the occasion. He has travelled through most parts of the kingdom, sometimes as a gentleman, sometimes as a lady; he wanted not equipage or servants agreeable to such pretensions, and lay constantly in wait either in small clothes or petticoats, to marry the first man or woman that seemed worth his while, and was sure to decamp next morning with such effects as came to hand, to the ruin of many families." His trial "for these sacrilegious frauds" is to be in May, with "witnesses . . . expected from every quarter" so that "there can be no doubt of this ambo-dexter's receiving the punishment he so justly merits."
