Summary
Review of the opera La Figlia del Reggimento in which the lead actress, Jenny Lind, is praised as the creator of the role of Maria on the English stage. The opera tells the story of Maria, a female orphan raised by a military regiment: "it was Jenny Lind who first brought the Figlia to this country. Maria comes to us as her own creation, and the military dress and charming "rataplan" seem to belong to Jenny Lind and to no other. Then it is the character in which the most likenesses, both engravings and statuettes have been taken, and thus the association is rendered as complete as possible."
