WXDA Record #446
No title.
30 September 1785
Summary
Another paper is correct in its comment on an item from the Universal Register: "the Lord Chamberlain has not a power to prohibit the appearance of one sex on the stage in the habit of another.--It is a misnomer, the power is with the Attorney General, or any individual who would take the trouble of laying the fact before a Grand Jury." In fact, "there is a positive act of Parliament against men wearing the cloaths of women, or women assuming the habits of men."
