WXDA Record #447
No title.
30 September 1785
Summary
Mrs. Martyr to play Macheath this evening. Various sexual/sexist japes on women in breeches: "Much is expected from Mrs. Martyr in breeches--that is, Mrs. Martyr it is thought can do a great deal when she takes off her petticoats--but is this not driving an actress to her last shift, to discover the power of attraction." "Women in breeches--pshaw! there is always something wanting, a visible deficiency in character, which no woman could ever fill up."
