"Mrs. Wells was resolved to be dressed a la-mode, and consequently must have skirts to her coat, should she appear as a French Marquis; this, Capt. Skirtminus would not agree to. To reconcil the parties, the Spanish garb was adopted, and propriety in some manner sacrificed."
